Holy Mass of the Supper of the Lord was solemnly celebrated on Thursday, March 29 in the parish church in Medjugorje. Fr. Slavko Soldo was the main celebrant in the communion with the parish priest and 28 more priests. Rosary was said before the Holy Mass, led by Fr. Josip Marija Katalinić. The parish choir of the Queen of Peace accompanied the service with their singing. (photos)

Palm Sunday or the Sunday of the Passion of Our Lord traditionally is an introduction to the Holy Week, as a preparation for Easter, the greatest Christian feast. As in the previous years, the liturgy of Palm Sunday began at the ruins of the old parish church. The procession began after the Gospel about the entrance of Our Lord into Jerusalem was read and the blessing of palm and olive branches followed. (photos)

The ambulance of the Order of Malta began with their activities in a new season in Medjugorje on this Palm Sunday, March 25. Their hours for urgent medicine are in this year from 9 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. and from 3.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. They will continue to work until October 31, 2017.

Encounters and lectures on Wednesday in the Lent continue also this Wednesday when prof. Ankica Bakovic, psychologist, will give a talk at the Hall of John Paul II at 7.30 pm. She would speak about increasing problem of the digital addictions of children and the youth and the theme is: “The influence of the screens at the development of the child.” We are all invited, especially parents, youth and children.

The visionary Mirjana Dragicevic-Soldo had daily apparitions from June 24th 1981 to December 25th 1982. During the last daily apparition, Our Lady gave her the 10th secret, and told her that she would appear to her once a year, on the 18th of March. It has been this way through the years. Several thousand pilgrims gathered in prayer of the Rosary. The apparition lasted from 13:38 to 13:42.

On March 16 we will celebrate the 84th anniversary of construction of the cross on Cross Mountain and of the first Holy Mass that was celebrated at the foot of that cross. This Hill became famous in the last decades all over the world, while the idea for the construction of the cross was suggested by the parish priest in those days, Fr. Bernardin Smoljan.

Also this year we are organising the spiritual retreat for our parish from March 15-17, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The programme will start with the Rosary at 5 pm and Holy Mass at 6 pm. After Holy Mass there will be lectures and sharing in the Hall of John Paul II. The leader will be Fr. Damir Stojic, a famous Croatian Salesian priest, student chaplain for Zagreb, Croatia.

Each Lent we meditate on the passion of Christ, especially in devotion of the Way of the Cross, that we as faithful say in our families and in the churches. Medjugorje parish prays the Way of the Cross on Cross Mountain at 2 pm every Friday, and in the church of St. James every Friday after the evening Holy Mass. In the branch churches in Šurmanci, Vionica and Miletina, it takes place at 4 pm.

Also this Wednesday, the Lenten encounters for the parishioners of Medjugorje parish will continue and on March 7, at 7.30 pm, two religious people originating from this parish will give their testimonies. Those are Fr. Miro Sego, OFM and S. Marina Ivankovic who will speak about what they can recall from their lives before their religious vocation and what made them respond to God’s call.
