Palm Sunday or the Sunday of the Passion of Our Lord traditionally is an introduction to the Holy Week, as a preparation for Easter, the greatest Christian feast. As in the previous years, the liturgy of Palm Sunday began at the ruins of the old parish church. The procession began after the Gospel about the entrance of Our Lord into Jerusalem was read and the blessing of palm and olive branches followed. The procession then started towards the White Dome of St. James’ church, where Fr. Karlo Lovric celebrated Holy Mass at 11 a.m. The parish choir, conducted by Sr. Irena Azinovic, made a celebration more solemn.
Numerous pilgrims from surrounding places and towns of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and from abroad too, joined parishioners on this day in Medjugorje. Many pilgrims also climbed Apparition Hill at 2 p.m. for the prayer of the Rosary. Apart from many faithful who come for prayer and celebration of the Holy Eucharist, there are each day more and more of those who wait for the sacrament of the confession here in Medjugorje.
