Fraternity “Marian Vow for Homeland”, founded by the youth and former soldiers, began their first pilgrimage called “Marian Vow for Homeland” in 2015. This pilgrimage shall pass through the most of the Marian shrines from the east to the south of Croatia, and they will also walk for a part of their journey in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through Medjugorje.
Number of Holy Communions: 171 000
Number of priests that concelebrated at Holy Masses: 3646 (117 per day)
Fr. Marinko Sakota was the main celebrant of the solemn Holy Mass celebrated on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, along with 65 priests concelebrating. Fr. Zvonimir Pavićić led the prayer of the Rosary and as traditionally, the Procession with the Blessed Sacrament in the streets of Medjugorje followed, with many priests, religious and pilgrims participating. On May 31, 2018, the Holy Father appointed Archbishop Henryk Hoser, S.A.C., retired bishop of Warsaw-Prague (Poland), Apostolic Visitor with a special role for the parish of Medjugorje, for an indefinite time, and ad nutum Sanctae Sedis.
On Sunday, May 27, 57 children received the first Holy Communion. Fr. Marinko Sakota was the main celebrant at the solemn Holy Mass at 10 am, and the children’s choir “Doves of Peace”, conducted by Sr. Irena Azinovic, made this celebration more solemn. The entire church was filled with the little children, their parents and many pilgrims. (photos)
On Thursday, May 31, we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. This is one of the solemnities in our Church and Holy Masses in Croatian language shall be at 7, 11 and 6 pm. After the evening Holy Mass, the Procession with the Blessed Sacrament will take place. It will start at the church, all the way to the bridge, then to the school and returning before the church again. We kindly ask all of the owners of the restaurants, coffee bars and shops to close their shops and adore the Blessed Sacrament on that evening.
Summer schedule of the prayer programme begins on June 1st and will be in force until September 1, 2018. Rosary will be at 6 p.m. and Holy Mass at 7 p.m. while after Holy Mass the regular prayer programme will follow, depending on the day in the week. Adorations on Tuesdays and Saturdays will start at 10 p.m., and on Thursdays at 8 pm, after the evening Holy Mass.
On Saturday, May 26, 2018, 32 young boys and girls received the sacrament of the Holy Confirmation at the Holy Mass held at 10 am in the church of St. James. The sacrament was ministered to them by Mons. dr. Ratko Peric, bishop of Mostar Duvno Diocese. The choir conducted by Sr. Irena Azinovic made this celebration more solemn and beautiful. (photos)
On Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 8 pm, there was a solemn Holy Mass and renewal of the vows for parents of the youth from Medjugorje. During the time of the Holy Mass, parents read aloud their vows when they promised to fast, pray and celebrate Holy Mass for their children and all children in the parish of Medjugorje for one year, each first Friday of the month.(photos)
May is always a special month in Medjugorje, the month of Mary and many pilgrims decide to come to Medjugorje in this time. Our journalists had opportunity to speak to one pilgrim from Columbia who came here for the second time. This time, she came to thank the Queen of Peace for her healing.
The 7th International pilgrimage for persons with disabilities will take place from June 14-17, 2018, with the theme Living on the Word of God “Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures” (Lk 24:45). The coordinator of the pilgrimage is the parish priest Fr. Marinko Sakota.
On May 14 there was a celebration of Mother’s Day organised by the parish of Medjugorje and Elementary School of Bijakovici. It was the event full of joy, music, songs and praise.
Mothers were overjoyed and there were even some tears because of children’s performance for their moms. (photos)
