The days of Christmas and of the New Year always draw to Medjugorje numerous, mostly young pilgrims form all over the world. The Christmas Vigil, in which the parishioners usually represent the majority, began with two hours of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by the Midnight Mass, which ended about 1 am. Fr. Boze Milic and Fr. Ljubo Kurtovic led the Adoration; the Midnight Mass was presided by Fr. Mario Knezovic and concelebrated by numerous, mostly Croatian, priests.
In the time of Christmas, the children’s choir “Little doves of peace” and the “Choir of the Queen of Peace” from Medjugorje, under direction of Sister Slavica Kozul gave five concerts in Medjugorje, Sarajevo and Dubrovnik.
The first evening Mass in 2005, at the Shrine of the Queen of Peace in Medjugorje, was offered for the victims of the disastrous earthquake in South Asia.
At the last daily apparition to Jakov Colo on September 12th, 1998, Our Lady told him that henceforth he would have one apparition a year, every December 25th, on Christmas Day. This is also how it was this year. The apparition began at 2:30 pm and lasted 7 minutes.
The documentary “Medjugorska svjetla” (“The lights of Medjugorje”) was shown for the first time on Wednesday, December 15, in Dubrovnik in the diocesan hall “Bl. Alojzije Stepinac” full to capacity.
On Saturday, December 18, the parish choir “Kraljice mira” gave its Christmas concert in the parish church in Medjugorje.
The Parish Office Medjugorje, the Information Center “Mir” Medjugorje and Mother’s Village Bijakovici-Medjugorje kindly ask organisers and guides to inform the pilgrims that they have given to nobody the right to copy, distribute or sell CD’s, audio and video cassettes edited by them.
The Youth Festival 2005 will have for the theme the EUCHARIST. The organisers of the Festival invite young authors to compose songs inspired by this theme, and to send their partitions by fax to: 00 387 36 651 444.
On Saturday, December 4, the Franciscan novices from Livno came to Medjugorje.These 14 young Franciscans are members of two Franciscans provinces in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The fourth anniversary of Fr. Slavko’s death was commemorated in Medjugorje on November 24. He died on November 24, 2000, at 3.30 pm, after the weekly prayer of the Way of the Cross.
About 50 members of the prayer group “Prayer and Word” – MiR – from Rijeka (Croatia) came on pilgrimage to Medjugorje from October 1 to 3. Fr. Tomislav Hrstic accompanied the pilgrimage.
In a recent interview for Radio “Mir” Medjugorje, the General Minister of the Franciscan OFM Order, Fr. José Rodríguez Carballo, expressed his desire to come and visit Medjugorje. He said that he would like to come to the International Youth Festival, about which he heard all the best. The Minister General, as he said, wants to be close to his Franciscan brothers in all the parts of the world, and also in Medjugorje, where they are doing wonderful things for the glory of God.
The 5th International Seminar for Married Couples took place in Medjugorje from November 3 to 6, 2004. The theme of the seminar was, “How to heal the marriage and the family?”
In October 2004, several different choirs sung in the parish church in Medjugorje during the evening Mass: the mixed choir “Bascina” from Zagreb/Croatia, the parish choir from Runovici near Imotski/Croatia, the parish choir from Frohnleiten/Austria, and the Cathedral choir from Mostar/Bosnia and Herzegovina.
