date: 12.09.2016.

On Sunday, September 11, 2016, the Feast of Exaltation of the Holy Cross was celebrated in Medjugorje parish, traditionally every first Sunday after the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Holy Masses were celebrated in the parish church at 7,8 am and 12 and 6 pm. Solemn Holy Mass, celebrated by Fr. Damir Pavic, Secretary of Franciscan Province of Bosnia, was at 11 am on top of Cross Mountain.

„Dear faithful, all of you who venerate Cross of our Lord, all of you who honour Blessed Virgin Mary, the one who stood beneath the cross. Today, at this holy place, on Cross Mountain, we celebrate Holy Mass here since 1934, on the first Sunday after the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Many people from this region, from Herzegovina and from all over the world, come here to meditate on Cross of Jesus Christ, come here to gaze towards the cross where our salvation stands. That is why we gathered here today, around this greatest sacred sign of our faith“, said Fr. Damir in his homily.

Fr. Ivan Dugandzic celebrated Holy Mass at noon, at the White Dome, for all those who were not able to go up the mountain. Fr. Vjekoslav Milićević with 69 priests concelebrating, was the main celebrant in the evening. As well as each year, rivers of pilgrims came to Medjugorje during the night and that morning. Many of them walked, even in their bare feet. (photos)
