Dr. Massimo del Bene, a surgeon from Milan in Italy came to Medjugorje recently. It was five years ago that he performed the first hand transplant operation on a lady who was 50 years old at the time. His wife had come here first a few years earlier and the two of them made the next pilgrimage together. He said that his faith helped him a lot in his profession. He told us that he came to Medjugoje prior to the demanding surgery to seek the Gospa's protection and intercession: “I came to Medjugorje before the operation because it was really hard and demanding surgery. Ten days after the operation, which was in 2010, I came to Medjugorje again in thanksgiving to the Queen of Peace, as everything went really well. I took back some rosary beads to the patient who had undergone the transplant, as she was about to begin physiotherapy and the best therapy was praying the rosary using her fingers. We come here every six months to regain strength and to renew ourselves for the type of the work we do, as it is really demanding. I keep coming here as it is only here that I find strength and renewal“, said Dr. del Bene.
