50th wedding anniversary in Medjugorje with 13 children and 36 grandchildren

date: 28.08.2016.

Marta Sanfelia and Antonio Gamiz, a couple from Barcelona, came this June to Medjugorje on a pilgrimage with all members of their family: 13 children and 36 grandchildren, and the reason of their visit was celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary. They came to Medjugorje in 2009, for the first time and ever since then, they keep returning here. Even though they practiced their faith before that visit, Medjugorje strengthened their faith and their prayer became more profound. “Parents have duty to cooperate with God and the purpose of upbringing of children is eternal life and salvation of soul“, they said.

They went to Holy Masses, prayed on Hills and they also visited radio station Mir Medjugorje and shared their testimony of Medjugorje and family life.

Mrs. Marta said that the reason they are here is to thank Gospa for the gift they received in 13 children they had. “Nine of them are married and this year we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We could not think of any other place where to celebrate this, as our 36th grandchild is a miracle of the Queen of Peace from Medjugorje. Her parents could not have children and last year they came here and made a vow to Gospa and they prayed to have a child. She was born and they came here to consecrate her to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Surely, faith was important to us all of our lives, but I need to say that today our faith is much stronger than ever before. When you have such numerous family, you may encounter many difficulties in your life, as each child is very special. They are unique and each child is specific world. What helps me and what makes me strong is every day Holy Mass and Holy Communion. Gospa is a Mother, I come to Her all of my life “.

Mr. Antonio said: „When we got married, we were practical believers, but we did not go for daily Holy Mass. We used to pray the Rosary and we regularly confessed, but little by little, our children brought us closer to God and to life in faith. Gospa invited us here. I saw the Statue of Our Lady of Medjugorje in one church in Barcelona. I asked about it in the church and they spoke to me about Medjugorje. They told me that every first Sunday in a month, their prayer programme is like the one in Medjugorje, Rosary, Holy Mass and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. I bought a book about Medjugorje that I read once during my holiday.”

The atmosphere they felt in Medjugorje made them strong in faith and they felt it was so important to pray a lot for salvation of their children. Marta said: „Prayer of Rosary is so important for one family. Even though we used to pray before, we never appreciated that prayer as much as we do today when we have Medjugorje in our lives. This is where people pray and this is where you can receive so many powerful testimonies“. (Radio station „Mir“ Međugorje)
