„1000 Kilometers of Solidarity“

date: 21.07.2008.
After three days of cycling from Agrate near Milano, members of the Cycling Club “Agrate” arrived in Medjugorje on Friday, July 18, 2006.

This journey with the motto, “ 1000 Kilometers of Solidarity” was organized together with the Foundation don Carlo Gnocchi from Italy . Foundation don Carlo Gnocchi is helping children with special needs, as well as old and very sick people. This foundation is supporting many houses in Italy and abroad, and one of them is the house “Mary, our hope” in Široki Brijeg.

Lorenzo Brambilla, the president of the Cycling Club, gave an interview for Radio MIR Medjugorje. He underlined that the goal of this journey was to give a support to sick people. They also collected funds, and bought equipments for the house “Mary, our hope” in Široki Brijeg.

The cyclists were driving in groups of four, daily about 220 kilometers . The road to Medjugorje took them through Padova, Trieste , Starigrad, Split and Široki Brijeg.

According to the words of Lorenzo Brambilla, the journey came to pass in an excellent way. The cyclists were very well accepted by other participants of the road traffic, who always gave them enough space, and some of them were greeting them with their sirens and showing their support by clapping their hands, which make them really happy. This is their seventh cycling tour. They already drove to Rome , to San Giovanni Rotondo, Bruxelles, the Czech Republic … but this journey was really very special, full of warmth and emotions.

“We managed to unite the members of the Foundation and other people with the same goal and the same idea in the heart: to help others”, underlined Emanuela D'Alterio, in charge of one of the offices of the Foundation don Carlo Gnocchi in Italy .
