COLLECTION OF WORKS ON FR. STANKO VASILJ

date: 13.12.2014.

As a part of preparation for celebration of St. James Feast, patron saint of Medjugorje, there was the scientific symposium held on Fr. Stanko Vasilj. On Friday, December 12, 2014, after the evening Holy Mass, there was the Collection of works on Fr. Stanko Vasilj that was introduced mainly with the works presented during that symposium that at the same time contains all his written works. Fr. Stanko’s music heritage was introduced, his notes that were gathered in the Collection of Selected Poems, Hymns and Holy Masses. Fr. Stanko was very recognisable personality in the second half of the 20th century in the Province of Herzegovinian Franciscans, as well as in the Herzegovinian Church. He was a parish priest serving in several parishes, conductor of the spiritual exercises as well as head of various missions. We remember him as the priest who confessed for many years in Medjugorje, the one who taught people how to pray the Rosary and the one who played at the evening Holy Masses. Surely, all wider public knows him as the author of the Medjugorje Hymn “We come to You Dearest Mother.” During the evening, songs of Fr. Stanko were performed and performers were Main Parish Choir of the Queen of Peace, conducted by Sr. Irena Azinovic, Monija Jarak and tambourine orchestra Surmanci, conducted by Prof. Davor Markota. Dr. Fr. Robert Jolic, editor and the author of the monography “Fr. Stanko Vasilj – life and work,” gave a speech, speaking about this work that was published for the 20th anniversary of death of Fr. Stanko Vasilj.
